Maqam Rast is known to be a simple and powerful maqam that is both strong, yet calming and grounded. In this course, we'll cover the patterns and usage of maqam rast, a beautiful yet surprisingly easy to follow maqam - the tune of Shaykh ash-Shuraim, al-Juhany, and many others. In this short course, we'll be using the same teaching methods that we use in our full Maqamat Blueprint program, breaking down the structure and patterns of maqam rast - visually - so that you can literally see the maqam, and you're not guessing how or what the tune should sound like. You'll learn four key patterns that will help you unlock - and then stay - in the maqam. Using our practice audio clips, you'll be able to understand these patterns theoretically and then put them into practice. Once we learn these patterns on shorter phrases, we'll work on combining them into longer ayat and then across several ayat. The end result? You're reciting in a beautiful, heartfelt tune.

Maqam Saba carries a uniquely moving and soulful tone - it's often described as the maqam of intense emotion, humility, sadness, and spiritual brokenness. It’s the sound that brings a softness to the heart and is frequently heard in powerful, tear-inducing recitations. In this masterclass, you’ll learn how Saba is built, its defining notes and patterns, and how to apply them smoothly in your recitation. With guided practice exercises and Qur’an examples, you’ll develop the ability to recite Saba with stability and beauty. Please note: this workshop assumes some prior familiarity with maqamat - specifically a basic understanding of how maqamat work and my method of teaching maqamat (spacings, patterns etc). New students can benefit from this, but this was delivered to students who already took a previous course with me.
